The house has undergone several changes over the years. In the 1980s, the building was restored to its original appearance. It featured seventeen layers of wallpaper and was not connected to electricity until 1984. As a result, many staff members have reported that the lights turn off at night.

This spooky and mysterious edifice was built by William Heath Davis, who was a founder of the “New Town” settlement of San Diego. He built it with prefabricated materials shipped from Portland, Maine. After a series of owners, the house was moved three times and eventually ended up in its current location.

The Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation, located in the Davis-Horton House, specializes in preserving the heritage of the Gaslamp Quarter. With thousands of items on display, it is possible to learn about the culture and history of the area. Since it has been in the same location for over one hundred years, the Gaslamp Quarter has maintained its historical significance. Located in the oldest standing house in the Gaslamp Quarter, the Museum showcases the history of the neighborhood, including the story of William Heath Davis.
