MCRD San Diego Command Museum

The Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego (MCRD San Diego) is a United States Marine Corps training facility located at 1600 Henderson Ave BUILDING 26, San Diego, CA 92140. In San Diego, California. The Command Museum opened in 1988. Former Depot Commanding General James L. Day, who received the Medal of Honor for his World War II service, is the namesake of the Hall. Currently, the museum is open to the public for free.

In addition to the Command Museum, the MCRD San Diego has a library, research center, and a museum. These facilities are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is home to a specialized research library focusing on the history of the Marine Corps. Other facilities include an aviation museum, a recruiting museum, and an educational facility.

The museum is operated by the MCRD Museum Foundation, an independent nonprofit 501 (c) (3) public benefit corporation. It is the mission of the Foundation to preserve the history of the Marine Corps, and to promote it through scholarship awards and education programs. There is a robust volunteer program to support the mission. Volunteers are involved in the research and archiving of the museum’s collections.

The Flying Leathernecks Aviation Museum is a museum dedicated to the history and technology of the close support aircraft in the Marine Corps. It offers visitors a look at some of the best aviation equipment in the world. Visitors are welcome to take a ride on a vintage aircraft.
