Southcrest is a neighborhood in southeastern San Diego. It is bordered on the east by Barrio Logan, on the north by Mountain View and on the south by Shelltown. It is a popular residential area with a population of 5,440. Although it is one of the city’s more expensive neighborhoods, it is still affordable compared to some of its larger neighbors. Although the community is located in a sunny climate, you will find that it is not without its fair share of rain. Average daily rainfall is 0.2 mm. In addition, the largest of Southcrest’s four rain-hauling creeks, Chollas Creek, is a waterway. Aside from its role as a flood control and irrigation system, it has also lent itself to a number of public art installations. Among them, the most interesting is the ‘Middle School’, a mosaic installation that showcases a wide variety of works in a variety of media.

Besides its aforementioned rain-hauling creek, Southcrest has several other notable features to boast about. For instance, it is home to the first Samoan church in the United States. There are also dozens of cafes, restaurants, and grocery stores. Moreover, the Southcrest Trails Park, which is a ‘park’ in the true sense of the word, is an impressive feat in its own right. Not to mention the fact that it is an environmentally conscious project that was built with some help from the state.

Another noteworthy feat is the area’s proximity to downtown San Diego. Located just a short five-minute drive away, you’ll find the Pacific Fleet station, a posh new station on the Blue Line of the San Diego Trolley. Additionally, the Naval Base San Diego is just a mile from the heart of Southcrest. And with a population of just over 5000 people, you’ll never have a shortage of people to socialize with.

Fortunately for those interested in the home of the hippest neighborhood in the city, the best part about living in Southcrest is the affordability of its homes. Depending on where you look, the median list price is between $321K and $1.1M. However, the cheapest homes in the area can cost as little as $575K. Even more affordable are the rentals in Southcrest, where one can rent a three bedroom condo for as little as $1.9K a month.

Lastly, the best part about the area is the plethora of parks and recreational facilities that are open to the public. Southcrest has three major parks: the San Diego Zoo, Southcrest Trails Park, and the Chollas Creek Trails Park. All of them are excellent examples of the city’s dedication to environmental preservation. Click here to continue.
